Director’s Statement:
A Day of Hunting and Gathering was my first film. The film is the result of about three years of experimenting with video and learning how to capture moving subjects which began when I acquired my first video camera. During this time I spent most of my spare time filming whatever subject came across my path which turned out to be mostly plants and insects. This is due in no small part to the fact that I harbour a fascination with the natural world, especially the smaller creatures that inhabit it and spend a lot of time pursuing out-door activities. As a result of this focus, when I started to experiment with video editing and arranging my many accumulated video clips into narrative sequences, most of what I had to work with was plants and insects. For this reason this subject matter of A Day of Hunting and Gathering was a foregone conclusion.
